Skills for the Future- How are we preparing kids?

I think we all would agree that the Habits of Mind and other approaches to learning are essential skills for our students. And I go to say that most would agree that theses skills are even more important than some of the current things we are required teach.

So why aren't we teaching them?!?!

Do we assume that kids already know them? Do we believe these skills can be "taught"? Do we think some of these skills are intuitive or dependent on personality or situation? Are we focuses on the short term and not thinking about their future? Do we think the content is more important than teaching "skills"? Do we think it will take up too much time (or waste time)? Do we assume another departments or teachers will be teaching them? Do we understand HOW to teach them? Do we understand the importance?

Check out this chart and see how these skills overlap. Are our students's prepared for the work world? Also, look at the skills needed for 2020... it will be here before we know it!
